10:15 a.m. - 11:15  Illinois Respite Coalition- FREE TRAINING for Caregivers! (Training will start promptly at 10:15 a.m. , you will not receive credit for the training if you do not arrive on time.

11:20 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. Special Guest: Eve Megargel, Author, Learning to Kiss- A brilliant story about her son’s journey who is on the autism spectrum and struggles to communicate.

      •      • CPDUs are available for Illinois educators who pre-register; include a note in your registration email to: kevans@chicagoautism.org.
      •      • Children 17 and under are not allowed in the general meeting but are welcome in respite.  Persons 18 and over w/ASD who find the meeting overstimulating are also welcome in respite (See details below). 

       

    RESPITE CARE
    Free respite care for children with autism is provided by professionally trained staff. However, ADVANCE RESERVATIONS are required. Send your request to kevans@chicagoautism.org by Friday, May 20th. Include your name and the name and age of your loved one with autism. We limit respite care size to 20 to ensure safety and personalized care.

  • 2016 MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL:

    The 2016 Membership Renewal Form will be available at the meeting. Please be sure to renew your membership for the 2016 calendar year at the meeting to take advantage of discounts throughout the calendar year. Remember: Membership is good January 1st through December 31st.


    Monthly Bowling

    Chicagoland Autism Connection will host its first bowling outing on Sunday, May 22, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Arena Lanes, 4700 W. 103rd Street, Oak Lawn, IL. 60453

    CAC paid members are eligible for one child to attend free and $10 for each additional person with ASD or sibling through January 2016. (Value of $100) NON-MEMBERS-$12.00 per person

    Price includes: 2 hours of bowling, shoe rental, slice of cheese pizza, 12 oz. soda, fun, networking and end of the year awards ceremony. Parent, guardian or sibling must be present.

“Dancing for Autism” New Jerusalem Grand Lodge & Queen Esther Grand Lodge are hosting a dance to support Autism Awareness at the Grand Ballroomlocated at 6351 S. Cottage Grove.   A percentage of the proceeds will be donated to Chicagoland Autism Connection to help us offset administrative cost associated with our programs, advocacy, social outings and other events.   This event will have free refreshments, a cash bar and vendors.  CAC will have a table at this event.  We want to thank New Jerusalem Grand Lodge & Queen Esther Grand Chapter in advance for their support and generous donation.  A special note of thanks to Parent/Supporter/ Bro. SIGN UP FOR THE WALK AT THE CHICAGOLAND AUTISM CONNECTION/AUTISM SPEAKS WALK TABLE TODAY!!!
Chicagoland Autism Connection (CAC) will host a team for the 2016 Autism Speaks Walk at Soldier Field.  We encourage you to walk with us on Saturday, May 14thfor another opportunity to bring awareness to the community.  If you are unable to walk, please sign-up to volunteer at our booth during the resource fair!  T-Shirts  from CAC are available for purchase for $10!  Walkers raising over $150 individually will receive a free commemorative t-shirt from Autism Speaks.  You can create your own team within our team!  More information on transportation and other details will be made available following the Autism Speaks kickoff meeting in late March.  “The Autism Speaks Walk is an inspirational and impactful opportunity to raise money and awareness to help change the future for all those who struggle with autism. Participating in Autism Speaks Walk empowers you to make a difference and provides you with an opportunity to honor someone with autism. Congratulations to Wanda Bethel Satkas on her selection as the "State of Illinois Interagency Committee on Employees with Disabilities' 2013 Advocate of the Year".  Wanda, co-founder of CAC and for many years the CEO, was recognized at a ceremony in Springfield this past May.  Additionally, Wanda is among a group who will be honored by Creativity United at the "We Dream in Color" event on Sunday, July 21st at the DuSable Museum.  This program celebrates individuals who have learned to embrace their color to enhance the lives of others.  There will be food and a roster of tremendous entertainers.  Tickets are $100 (VIP Meet & Greet), $50 (General Admission), and $35 (Show Only).  For tickets and additional information call (773) 621-3372 or visitwww.weliveandremember.com.  The VIP Meet & Greet is at 5:00 p.m., the Reception is at 5:15 p.m., and the Show begins at 6:30 p.m.  Let's show up and thank Wanda for her many years of hard work on behalf of the autism community!!
